The shears have heavy gauge steel blades connected by a padded lock nut to make a clean cut through the entire blade length, making shearing much easier. The serrated edge of the joint firmly grips a swaying branch and allows cutting of branches up to 5/8" in diameter. At 2.4 lbs, it's a very heavy duty shear. Strong tubular steel handles are coated with epoxy resin for rust protection. Double rubber bumpers (say that one three times really fast:) take up the "cut-through shock".
